NEW ARRIVAL In the 60's the Valco company made some of the most interesting and bizarre instruments to ever come out of the musical factories in Chicago. Valco made National, Supro, and Airline brand names and usually marketed the same exact designs with little variations under all 3 names. The folkstar is one of those designs. It was evidently a popular enough model for it to be recently reissued by the latest incarnation of the Airline brand. It features a two part fiberglass body, finished in a vibrant red, joined together in the middle with a rubber gasket, and the resonator system comprises a spun cone with biscuit bridge. The fingerboard is beautiful Brazilian rosewood, topped with one of the coolest headstock designs, and the tuners are original Klusons. It has a unique tone, like an acoustic resonator sound, but this thing is loud, bluesy, and excels in both open and standard tuning, and can be played fingerstyle or with a pick. In very good, all original condition, this is a real piece of history, and seriously cool.
